It was the Louisville Cardinals’ night on Saturday, but the Louisville Lightning were happy to be along for the ride. The Cards defeated Villanova 3-1 to finish the regular season unbeaten, and the Lightning were honored at halftime in front of a packed house at Cardinal Park.
The Lightning were introduced at halftime of Saturday’s Louisville victory over Villanova, merging two of the region’s soccer powers in one venue. Coach Ted Nichols was joined by stars Frank Peabody, Ryan McDonald, David Horne, and many others as the team met with fans and talked about the upcoming season, which kicks off November 12th.
Fans were not only treated to an appearance by the Lightning, but another Big East victory by the Louisville Cardinals, who cruised to a 14-0-2 season and a perfect 9-0-0 record in Big East play. Superstar Colin Rolfe found the back of the net twice for the Cards, and midfielder Paolo DelPiccolo scored the Cards’ equalizer after Villanova went up 1-0 early on.
The University of Louisville now enters the Big East Tournament ranked as the top team in the nation in many national polls. Across town, the Lightning are hard at work getting ready for their season opener against the Cincinnati Kings on November 12. A limited number of season tickets are still available, and fans can purchase those at www.louisvillelightning.com/TicketInformation/index_E.html
The Louisville Lightning want to thank the University of Louisville Men’s Soccer Program for their continued support, and the Lightning will be cheering on the Cards at the Big East Tournament. Go Cards, and Go Lightning!
