APRIL CURTSINGER

April CurtsingerName: April Curtsinger          Birthday: 1/12/89

Hometown: Louisville, KY

Last Team Danced For: Louisville Saints

Professional Experience: This is my first stint in the professional dancing world. Out of high school I danced for the Louisville Fire Semiprofessional Arena Football Team as a Wildfire. After that, I did a season dancing with the Louisville Saints as a Lady Saint and this is my first try at choreographing and managing a team with the Lightning Lady dance team.

Studio/High School: I began dancing at Step-N-Out Studio when I was about six years old. I danced there for five years where I took jazz, tap, and ballet. Among its highlights were performing at the Barnstable Brown Derby Party every year. I also took three years of studio dance at 360 Dance doing jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, and some modern. After 360 Dance I joined the DuPont Manual Dazzler’s dance team, where we received NDA National Championship Titles in 2004 (LV Jazz), 2006 (LV Pom), and 2007 (LV Pom).

Personal: My position with the Lightning Ladies is co-choreographer/coach/dancer with Chelsea Nester. We’re both really excited to finally get our season underway making our inaugural performance debut at the “Blackout” game on the 22nd! (Which may I add is PERFECT because together we refer to ourselves as “Team Black”, which has to a good sign!) I’m currently in my 3rd year at the University of Louisville as a Nursing major, where I’ve been a Norton’s Scholar since my freshman year of college. I’m considering changing my majors though because I’m not sure if Nursing is my real “calling” in life and I wanna make my stamp in the world!
I’m the biracial product with a family of four. When my dad, Richard, was in the Marines he made his way to the Philippines where he fell in love with one adorable little Filipino lady, Evelyn, aka “Mom” after which they made a little Eric, my older brother, and then put the icing on the cake with a little me in 1989. I was born in Havelock, North Carolina and I’ve grown up mostly in Louisville, but I did live a small part of my young life in Birmingham, Alabama.

                                                                                           Getting to know APRIL!

What is your most memorable moment in your dance career? My most memorable moments in my dance career would most definitely be winning Nationals in high school, being on the front of the webpage for the Fire, and most recently getting a chance to co-head the first dance team of the PASL!

What three words best describe you?  Lots of fun…always, and in that order. You’ll never see me sad or without a smile on my face, therefore keep it happy around me people, no raining on anyone’s parade!

Hobbies and Interests:  I possess handy lifeskills like knitting and sewing, which make me an honorary old lady because I enjoy them very much. I also love to dance, from toe tapping in the car to dancing in front of any reflective surfaces, to full out performing in front of a crowd. I’m going to go ahead and put sarcasm in my interests and hobbies, because few people accurately possess the refined skills to pull of sarcasm effectively, and I do enjoy a good facetious remark every now and then. I like shopping, hanging out with friends, wearing my chucks, and trying new things.

Favorite TV shows:  My current line up of shows I do believe compromise mostly reality TV. I like Tough Love, Bad Girls Club, Jersey Shore, Tool Academy, and generally anything where ridiculous people make fools of themselves on national television.

Most prized possession:  I’d say my most prized possession is my stuffed animal Henry. My dad gave him to me when I was still a wee little tot and although ragged and a little rough around the edges, I’d be lost if I didn’t have him.

Favorite guilty pleasure:  I LOVE the whiskey shrimp from Stony River. I’m not necessarily the most nutritious of individuals, but even if you’re not a seafood lover, I highly recommend everyone try the whiskey shrimp at least once. It changed my life. I also always put splenda and lemons in my water in restaurants.

Favorite quote:   “I don’t know how to tell you this, but I’m kinda a big deal….people know me” –Anchorman

What is the best part about being a professional dancer?  I’d say making awesome friendships with the girls on the team and being a part of the games. When you get the big crowd applause for the first time after a performance is when it’s most rewarding.

Favorite movie:  I’m cliché but I am madly in love with the Hangover right now. It was hilarious and I saw it three time in theaters.

Favorite music group/artist:  I like Cute Is What We Aim For, Ronnie Day, Adelle, the Fray, and John Mayer
