BUDWEISER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Budweiser Player of the Week
Chad Hagerty

This week’s Lightning player of the week is Midfielder, Chad Hagerty. Chad is from Louisville, Kentucky and he played on the Javanon ’87 club soccer team. He spent one season at St. Louis University and then transferred to University of Kentucky where he led Conference USA in 6 assists and added 1 goal. Hagerty was named Conference USA All-Tournament team and 2008 Academic All-American. He is the son of Charles and Janet Hagerty with a sister named Melissa, a brother Andrew, and a golden retriever dog named Nicki. Chad will graduate from UK in the spring 2010 with a degree in Exercise Science.

Coach Scott Budnick says, "Chad Hagerty has been named this week’s Player of the Week. Chad finished the PASL 2009 - 2010 regular season with a flourish, developing over the season into one of our better performers. Chad is an intelligent player who wants to be successful at this level - and as a result has made adjustments in his game to suit the indoor style. Chad is solid technically and a very good 2-way player. I look for Chad to continue his recent form as we prepare to play for the U.S. Open Arena Championship."

A few questions Chad answered….

Who is your biggest influence in your soccer career?
I would have to say my coaches throughout my club career with the Javanon team. They have showed me how soccer is supposed to be played and helped me a great deal.

How has your first year experience with the Lightning been?
It has been really fun and exciting. I enjoy playing in front of all of my friends and family and representing the city of Louisville where I have grown up. I have had a lot of good memories and really enjoy my teammates.

What is your favorite thing during the games?
I prefer to have assists during the games to help my teammates score goals. There is nothing more than helping out and assisting the team.

Who is your favorite athlete?
My favorite athlete is Cristiono Ronoldo who is a professional soccer player for Real Madrid soccer.

Do you have any pregame superstitions?
I try to just listen to music before the games and relax. I do not like to stress about playing or being nervous. I enjoy listening to a few of the same songs before games.

What advice would you give kids’ hoping to play soccer in college?
I always tell kids to set their goals high. If they believe in their self and their ability as a player they will succeed to higher levels. Kids should also dedicate their self to reaching goals in everything they do.

What is your favorite part about playing professional soccer for the Lightning?
I just love being able to still play after college. I get to hang out with a bunch of my teammate’s everyday and I enjoy playing with great guys. I also enjoy playing in front of fans in my city because I know many people that come out to support the Lightning.
