PASL-PRO WEEKLY - WEEK 12

Western Division could be virtually wrapped up tonight

1/28/10 -  The San Diego Sockers can all-but seal the deal on a Western Division title tonight with a win over the California Cougars at Stockton Arena.  San Diego (10-1) would reduce their magic number to one with a win and clinch the season series against the Cougars (9-3).

Sockers coach Phil Salvagio blamed himself for not ptoperly preparing his team before they went to Calgary and suffered their only loss on the season.  Still he was confident going so far as to guarantee a victory if they played Calgary again.  "At home I don't think anybody is going to beat us," he said.

And yet in two games at the Del Mar Arena, the Sockers needed overtime to beat the Cougars each time and now they will meet for the first time at Stockton Arena.  California has won five straight since a humiliating loss in Tijuana and are 4-0 at home.  The Cougars finished 5-3 on the road this season and will play their last four games at friendly Stockton Arena.

PASL-Pro Game Action

The Cougars stayed in contention with 15-6 and 4-3 wins, respectively, in Wenatchee and Tacoma.  Meanwhile the Texas Outlaws traveled to Canada and got outscored by a combined 31-4 in their two games against Edmonton and Calgary.

The injury-depleted Outlaws have been outscored 58-16 their last four games. While the Outlaws (4-7) have been officially eliminated from postseason play, they will have a chance to end their season on a positive note with four of their last five games at home and three against the last place Denver Dynamite (1-9).

KICK STARTERS - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro

Brian Farber, California Cougars
Farber, the reigning PASL-Pro MVP, had his 22-game point scoring streak snapped on January 3.  The Cougars dropped a 9-3 decision to Revolucion Tijuana and their three goals were a season low.

Lightning it up
The Louisville Lightning improved to 6-4 with an 8-1 win over the St. Louis Illusion.  The biggest story might have been their fifth sellout in five games.  The Lightning also broke the 1,000 barrier for the first time, packing 1,047 fans into Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club.
